The Moses Quilt by Kathi Macias
This is an intriguing story about Mazie Hartford, a young woman who has it all. She's starting a great job in the fall and has a wonderful boyfriend who wants to marry her. So why can't she say yes? Is she hesitant because he's of a different race? Her great-grandmother, Mimi, wonders if she might hold the answer and starts to tell her the story of a quilt she bought years ago. Each patch tells a story from Harriet Tubman's life and her story just might hold the key.
This story started out a bit slow for me, but I was immediately interested in learning about Harriet Tubman. I didn't recall much from my school years, so I felt like I was learning it for the first time. She led a fascinating and hard life and her faith in God is what kept her going. I had a harder time getting into Mazie's story, but I liked the secret revealed and how the ending tied the stories together. This is an inspiring story and worth checking out!
