Angels in the Fire by Dann Stadler
This is an amazing true story of the many trials one family has gone through and the miracles that have happened along the way! Dann and Tracey Stadler were involved in a horrific car crash in 1989 when a drunk driver hit them head-on as he drove down the freeway the wrong way. Tracey was trapped and the car was on fire when a man walked out of the woods and saved her. Tracey and others present knew he was an angel. Both Dann and Tracey weren't expected to survive due to their extensive injuries, but they did and have recovered more than the doctors thought possible. Dann explains the events surrounding the crash and following it,
describing the many surgeries they endured and the reactions of their
family as they went through this. He also shows what he and his wife
were thinking and feeling, both the ups and the downs, as they persevered through their long recoveries and other trials they've faced and he explains how the miracles and divine encounters didn't stop the night of the crash.This is a very encouraging story as you read how they battled against such long odds to not only survive, but also get back a somewhat normal life. Their positive attitudes even though they both have aftereffects from the accident are admirable and the other miraculous happenings are amazing! It's always good to have a reminder that God is still working today and to know that He has a plan. I definitely recommend this book!

Katie's Journey to Love by Jerry S. Eicher
This is an interesting story that continues the journey of Katie, a nineteen-year-old Amish girl whose mother remarries and changes her life. She was always thought of as weird Emma Raber's daughter and felt ignored and left out by her community. When her mother marries Jesse Mast, she not only gains five siblings and a father, but starts to feel more respected by others. Not everything is wonderful, however, as her new step-sister, Mabel, makes things very difficult for both Katie and her Mamm. Katie feels accepted by her Mennonite friends and continues to attend their youth gatherings to the dismay of her Mamm and Jesse as they feel the Mennonites are too worldly. The boy Katie's had a crush on for years finally starts to notice her, though her Mamm doesn't approve of him. More changes are in store when she's invited to go on a trip to Europe to visit sites important to the history of her faith which is made possible by an anonymous donor supplying the funds. While on the trip she receives horrible news that she doesn't know if she can survive. Will she continue to trust God for her future or turn away in bitterness?
My favorite part of this story were the historical sites Katie visited and all the history I learned of the Amish faith. I pretty much knew nothing of their history, so it was fascinating to see it through their eyes. I liked Katie and was very frustrated with the way Mabel acted toward her. I did think Katie was pretty naive in her feelings for a boy she didn't know very well and the story is left hanging to be continued in book three. I didn't feel too lost not having read book one, but I would have understood things a little better if I had. I liked how much Katie prayed and tried to follow God, even when she was dealing with family members who criticized or treated her badly. Overall, I liked it and would recommend if you like Amish fiction.

This is an interesting adventure story about a group of men who are on a quest to find a lost artifact before tensions in the Middle East boil over. Made up of archaeologists and historians, they try to interpret symbols on a mezuzah as they head to different parts of the world in search of clues. On the run with their lives in danger at every turn from assassins, they wonder if this will all be worth it.I had a hard time getting into this story. This is book two and I was a little lost not having read the first one. There's a lot of discussion about them discovering a hidden temple beneath the Temple Mount and the ensuing earthquake that happened in book one. The main character Tom has a very hard time deciding whether to go in search of this new artifact, and it feels like the book is about half over before things start to really happen. I found it interesting how they decoded the symbols and the information they received from the different places they went. I liked that one of the characters was a little person since you don't see that very often. It felt a bit like an Indiana Jones adventure. If you like adventure or suspense, you might want to check it out!

Seeds of Evidence by Linda J. White
This is a fast-paced suspenseful story about a woman's quest for justice! Kit McGovern is an FBI agent taking a much-needed vacation on the island of Chincoteague near Virginia when she comes upon a dead Hispanic child washed up on shore. Something compels her to assert jurisdiction and fight to keep the case. She traces tomato seeds and acorns using plant DNA to a farm, but why was the boy there and how did he get to the ocean? Is this case even bigger than just one boy? Still mourning a divorce she didn't want, will she give the D. C. cop helping her a chance or is love a risk too big to take?I enjoyed learning about the procedures and investigation that goes into building a case. Something was always happening in the story! I liked the characters, the suspense, and the hint of romance. I especially liked how Kit struggled with forgiveness and trust and David started to become interested in God and spiritual things. I really want to visit this island now, especially once I realized the Misty of Chincoteague books were set there. The author really made it come alive and it sounds gorgeous. Check out this suspenseful story!

A Healing Heart by Angela Breidenbach
This is an enjoyable story about an overworked mother of three who needs to get her priorities straight! Mara Keegan has been running her company solo since her husband died a few years before and has now promised to make a photo memory quilt for her daughter's graduation present. She feels she must do everything herself, but when she suffers a fall and then a heart attack, she's forced to take some time off. Luckily, her new business coach is able to fill in for her, but can she trust this man who once tried to take over her company with both her business and her heart? Will making the quilt be healing for her or bring up painful memories she'd rather forget?I really liked this family and the welcoming way they had. Mara is part Crow and part Irish and I liked the focus on her roots and heritage. It was nice to see an ethnicity not featured in books very much. The memory quilt sounded very cool and is actually based on quilts the author's family makes. I liked the struggle Mara had between doing it all or doing what she loved. The story also had its sad and amusing moments along with a sweet romance. This is part of the Quilts of Love series, but each book stands alone. I would recommend this, especially if you like quilting or crafts.

Dolled Up to Die by Lorena McCourtney
I really enjoyed this amusing and hard to figure out whodunit! Cate Kinkaid, an assistant private investigator, rushes to the scene of the crime of what she thinks is a triple homicide after she receives a call only to find out is isn't humans who were murdered but dolls! Why would anyone want to shoot dolls? When a human victim is discovered, can she trust the lady who called her or is she involved? As she continues investigating and sorting through suspects and motives, will she find the killer before she's next?I loved the humor and the investigating Cate does as she tries to find the killer. I find the job of a PI fascinating! Cate's a great character who selflessly helps people even when she may not feel like it because God wants her to and I admired that about her. This is book 2 in the Cate Kinkaid Files and it works as a stand-alone, though I want to find out how she met her deaf cat and her boyfriend, which sounds like it happened in book 1. Quirky characters and a good mystery made for a book I didn't want to put down!

Bible Stories Painting Book 2 by Juliet David
This is a cute paperback that contains many Bible stories a child can paint! There are two pages with a palette of different colors that become paint when water is added. The pages are perforated so they can be easily torn out. You do need to supply your own brush.
Each page is a different story with only a couple lines to describe it, so it's hard to get much meaning out of them. The colors seem like they could be a little more varied also. The drawings are very cute. I do think kids would enjoy this book, especially if they like to paint.

Small Town Girl by Ann H. Gabhart
This is a wonderful story! Kate Merritt watches her sister marry the man Kate has loved for years. While she really is happy for her sister, she knows there isn't another man like him. When his best man Jay takes an interest in her, she vows to keep her distance from this charmer who doesn't stay in one place too long. Her little sister quickly grows attached to him, so Kate finds herself tagging along. They're drawn to each other, but will her distrust and his feelings of unworthiness keep them apart? Or will the bombing of Pearl Harbor do that for them?This is a very well-written and cozy, small town story. I would love to live in Rosey Corner, especially with the Merritt's! Their love for each other just emanates from the pages. The characters feel so alive that it seemed as if they would walk into the room at any moment. I kept rooting for Kate and Jay while understanding what was holding them back. I feel like I truly understand how it was to live in the days leading up to the USA entering World War II, with hearing about the bombings of London and ships sinking and wondering if the men would be sent over there. This continues the story from Angel Sister, but years into the future, so it works very well as a stand-alone. I haven't read it yet myself, but plan to. I have loved the two books I've read so far of Ann's so much that I can't wait to read them all! She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. You definitely should check this out!

Undeniably Yours by Becky Wade
I loved this book! Anxiety-ridden Meg Cole has just inherited her father's oil empire, along with his ranch and Thoroughbred farm after his early death. She plans to close down a few of his interests, including the horse farm, but Bo Porter negotiates for six months and asks her to visit the farm. Bo was prepared to dislike the woman who plans to take away his dream job, but he feels inexplicably drawn to and protective of her. However, they come from two different worlds and he doesn't feel like he can measure up. Meg has a hard time trusting people, especially men, after she was burned badly in a previous relationship. Is Bo just what he seems or is he hiding something?This is well-written, with great characters and a great romance! I loved seeing a flawed heroine who struggled with panic attacks, which isn't something you see very often. Bo was a little too perfect and I did actually wish for more detail in their conversations as they got to know each other, instead of being told what they talked about. I liked the action scenes and really liked Meg's search for a purpose and what she should do about a career she didn't want. I loved the focus on faith and especially how Meg turned to God for help and wisdom and also received such wonderful Biblical advice from two women in her life. This is definitely going on my keeper shelf to reread! Run out and buy this book!

When Mockingbirds Sing by Billy Coffey
This is a very unique story. Leah and her family have moved to the small town of Mattingly, where they hope for a fresh start. Leah struggles with a stutter and is very shy, but she meets Allie and the Rainbow Man on the day of her 9th birthday party, the day she is given an easel. At first people think the Rainbow Man is an imaginary friend, but when she starts painting amazing pictures that seem to come true, she claims he told her what to paint. Her father, a psychologist, is torn between his failure to help his daughter and his need to save his patients. One of the pastors in town can't see any good in this Rainbow Man, while an elderly man sees his salvation. When her paintings become more foreboding, everyone will be faced with a choice that will mean life or death.This was very interesting, but not what I thought it would be like. It was a somewhat dark and serious read. We get perspectives of several different people, which I liked. Faith is talked about quite a bit, but more in reference to believing in the Rainbow Man and whether He is supposed to be God. Some of the characters had mistaken ideas about God, but it was all left a bit vague. I liked that it kept me guessing because I wasn't sure if the Rainbow Man was good or not or even real or not. I enjoyed the writing and the characters. I do plan to check out his other books, though I didn't love this one.

I really enjoyed this well-written story of a strained relationship between a mother and her daughter. Do Dandelion Wishes

(Goodreads description)I loved the different perspectives of this story because not only do we see Katherine's viewpoint of having to deal with hurtful comments, but we see her mother's side of why she says the things she does. We also see how Katherine's daughter feels about their relationship and how it affects her. I'm so grateful I have a wonderful relationship with my mother, but reading this made me think about critical people I know and where they might be coming from. I also liked the romance and could appreciate the obstacles Katherine and Micah faced. The special friendships Katherine shares with women in her quilting circle were also wonderful to see. I loved all of the characters and I can't wait to revisit them in the sequel. This is a new author to me and I definitely plan on reading her other books now that I've discovered her. I'm so glad I read this book!

This is an action-packed and suspenseful story, with a touch of humor! I liked that it's told from different perspectives and that it's hard to figure out who the bad guy is. I enjoyed the characters, but felt like they seemed a little too perfect. The action and suspense parts had me on the edge of my seat, but the other parts dragged a bit. I was really glad to see a clear and thorough presentation of the gospel. If you're looking for an exciting read, check it out!

INTERVIEW
1.) When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I
don’t remember a conscious decision. I think that’s just the way the
Lord made me. I’ve always loved writing and making stories up in my head
for as long as I can remember. Every once in a
while, I’ll find a page of an ancient second or third grade short story
and chuckle as I read it and try to decipher the context.
2.) What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Like I have any writing quirks…. ;) Probably
my most interesting one is the fact that my characters refuse to ever
conform to my outline. Sure, I start out with a neat and detailed plan,
but by mid-story, sometimes before, my characters are all running every
which-a-way in their own directions. Sometimes the “good guys” turn into
bad guys. Sometimes scenes from the end move up to the middle.
Sometimes the wrong people fall in love, and even other times a deep,
dark secret that I didn’t even know about will just pop up from
somebody’s past. Surprises… that’s what makes writing so fun!
3.) What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I
love life! One of my favorite things to do is to run outside,
especially on a dew-glistening, bird-singing, spring morning… just to
run toward a painted sunrise and feel absorbed in the beauty of God’s
creation! I love riding my horse down the gravel road or through the
cornfields. I love chilly fall days… a cool breeze floating in a
slightly open window or the feeling of warm apple-scented steam
against my face as I slide a crusty, golden, apple pie out of the oven
just as a drip of cinnamon syrup bubbles out and sizzles in the oven. I
like a crisp, breezy walk through a pumpkin patch or a swim in a cool
Wisconsin lake. I like camping in the North Woods or browsing souvenir
shops. I’ve enjoyed climbing cliffs in the Blue Ridge and drivin’ by
buffalo in Yellowstone. I love findin’ deals at garage sales and hangin’
out with my family… cookout style or pizza and popcorn movie nights. My
favorite time is Christmas… It’s A Wonderful Life in
the DVD player, a fire crackling in the corner, the pop of popcorn, and
the sweet aroma of hot chocolate as we hang ornaments and wrap lights
around our Christmas tree and nativity scene. I love seeing the Lord
work in my life and teach me new things. I love Him because He first
loved me. He’s shown me His love sooo many times in my life! One of my
favorite verses is “Thy gentleness hath made me great.” He’s the giver
of life, the one who makes daffodils smile and the thunderclouds clap. I
love life, love, loyalty, and laughter.
4.) For viewers who have not read, but are interested in your book, can you describe it please?
Fire Storm
is about a couple of young families living excessively normal lives in a
small-town, farming community in Northern Illinois. Wade is a
paramedic. His wife, Mellissa, works in a lawyer’s office, and they are
expecting a baby very soon. Their best friends, Jim and Jessica, live on
a small horse farm out in the country. Jim is a fireman. Jess is a
stay-at-home mom with her recently born little girl. Life is fun and
carefree till… Jess starts running into threats at every turn. Are they
even threats or just accidents? The thought of a killer being after Jess
just seems so ridiculous… though not so much… when she comes eye to eye
with murder! Who and Why? What about Wade ‘n Mellissa? Will they remain
safe in their young existence as they embark in the beginnings of
life’s journey, or will the epidemic of murder spread? How far does it
reach? What are the secrets?
5.) How does God affect your writing?
He
gave me the talent to write. He gave me an imagination and a love for
stories. He put me in a strongly Christian home where I received wisdom
about spiritual things and knowledge of true love, sacrifice, and care.
He saved me and gave me a purpose to write. Fire Storm was written for
Him and dedicated to Him, and by His grace, I pray that every book I
write will always point heavenward and never downward toward worldly
lusts.
6.) Who is your favorite character in your book?
That’s hard to say. I like all my characters. They are all different and unique. I
like variety. The world needs rich and poor, plain and fancy, strong
and weak, dream-chasers and content daily laborers, business women and
stay-at-home moms, flippant and flighty and rigid work-a-holics. If
there was one “right” type of person or one perfect race, the world
would be sooo dull. Everyone, fiction or real-life, has their very own
story.
7.) Could you tell us a little about yourself?
I’m
just a country girl who loves running down gravel roads surrounded by
walls of corn, baking harvest pies and made-from-scratch bread, getting
down in the dirt to plant a garden, or ridin’ my horse though the open
fields. I love to write, and I take my notebook everywhere. I’m always
looking for a likely place to relax and be transported into the lives of
my characters… a thick patch of grass under a willowy, flowering
crabapple, a place amongst the clover next to my horse as she eats in
her pasture, a spot near a large, picture window on a rainy day with the
pane slightly cracked to hear the rhythmic patter of water droplets
while feeling the chilly breeze, a cozy spot on the fireplace mantle
with a hot cup of tea, feeling the warmth and hearing the crackle as I
gaze outside at the swirling snow and the blowing pine branches. I like
studying life. It comes in so many forms. It’s everywhere you look, from
the golden dandelions and purple violets scattered among the grass to a
tiny chick-a-dee and golden finch singing high atop a tree. It’s in the
thunderous ocean waves and the song of a gentle brook bubbling over
rigid, moss-covered rocks. I cherish my family and consider them the
most important people in this world to me. Most of all, I love my Lord
and Savior, the Creator of life, the Father of justices, honor, purity,
and goodness, the friend of sinners, the giver of love… everlasting love
and life.
8.) What do you want readers to take away from your story?
A
few laughs… some exciting rushes of adrenaline… moments of curiosity
and bewilderment… entertainment and enjoyment… a feeling of genuine
friendship, love, and forgiveness… and most of all, a better
understanding of an all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God.
9.) Are you currently working on any new novels? If so, could you give us a hint?
Yes, I am working on a sequel, and I’m having quite a bit of fun with it!
