When the Heart Heals by Ann Shorey

Cover ArtThis is a well-written and interesting romance!  Rosemary Saxon worked as a nurse during the Civil War, a job a lot of people view as not appropriate for a woman.  Two years after the war, she needs to support herself and goes to work for the new doctor in town, Elijah Stewart.  They're immediately at odds with each other, but there are also sparks of a romantic variety.  When Rosemary is threatened, will they discover the culprit?

I really like the variety of characters, from headstrong and impetuous Rosemary to the eccentric townsfolk.  Her use of herbs and plants for tonics is interesting and I love how she got so involved in people's lives, whether they wanted her to or not!  The romance is sweet, though I wish it would have been a bit more drawn out.  This is the second book in the "Sisters at Heart" series, which reads fine as a stand-alone, but I definitely want to read the first and revisit the people of Noble Springs. I highly recommend it!

I received this book free from Revell in exchange for an honest review.
