My review: This was an interesting story about a topic I wasn't very familiar with. I found it fascinating to learn about a rice plantation and the difficulties these farmers had to bring in a crop, especially after the Civil War. I admired Charlotte's determination to make a go of the place. I also liked learning more about what the South experienced during the Reconstruction and what an epidemic of yellow fever was like. The book was well-written, with descriptions so vivid I felt like I could really visualize everything, and I definitely want to visit the area sometime because it sounds gorgeous! It felt like the story lagged as it went on, however, with not much happening. I wished for more to Charlotte and Nicholas's relationship, but I did enjoy her interaction with his children. If you like historical novels, you might want to check it out.
