Tamera Alexander’s To Win Her Favor Blog Tour and Kindle Giveaway!

About the book:
To Win Her Favor (Zondervan, May 2015)

A gifted rider in a world where ladies never race, Maggie Linden is determined that her horse will become a champion. But the one man who could help her has vowed to stay away from thoroughbred racing forever.

An Irishman far from home, Cullen McGrath left a once prosperous life in England because of a horse racing scandal that nearly ruined him. He's come to Nashville for a fresh start, hoping to buy land and begin farming, all while determined to stay as far away from thoroughbred racing as possible. But starting over proves harder than he'd wagered, especially when Maggie Linden's father makes him an offer he shouldn't accept yet cannot possibly refuse.

Maggie is certain that her mare, Bourbon Belle, can take the top purse in the inaugural Peyton Stakes, the richest race ever run in America. Maggie only needs the chance to prove it. To give her that chance---and to save Linden Downs from being sold to the highest bidder---Maggie's father, aging, yet wily as ever, makes a barter. His agreement includes one tiny, troublesome detail---Maggie must marry a man she's never met. A man she never would have chosen for herself.

My review:

This was a wonderful story full of romance with a wonderful plot!  It was fascinating to learn what life was like in the South after the Civil War.  This story showed how difficult it was for both the former slaves and for the landowners to survive and find a new way of viewing the world.  I was surprised to learn about the many foreigners who moved to the South buying up land and especially how disdainfully the Irish were treated.  The KKK were also rising up, which made for some suspenseful moments in the story.  I really liked Maggie, but I was surprised how readily she believed the stories about the Irish people as a whole.  It was interesting to see her really look at how she viewed the Irish and African Americans and the attitudes she had taken for granted.  Cullen played a big part in opening her eyes.  He was a great character;  I loved his integrity and how he wasn't afraid to stand up for himself or others.  It was also nice to see his spiritual journey as he starts out as a man who's turned his back on God who starts to make his way back.  The romance gets pretty passionate at times, though within marriage, so this story's probably more appropriate for older teens and adults.  It was interesting to learn about the horse racing world back then, especially as some of the characters were real people and horses!  I would highly recommend this book if you like romance or historical fiction!

I received this book free from Litfuse Publicity in exchange for an honest review.
