Wonderful Addition to the series! 'Healing Skye' - Coastal Hearts 6 - by Janet W. Ferguson

About the book:

People can’t be trusted.
Animals always made more sense than humans did to marine biologist Skye Youngblood. After her mother’s suicide, she left Alabama and never looked back. These days, she pours her heart into protecting nature’s sea creatures. When she returns to Dauphin Island, Alabama, for a temporary manatee migration study, her dark past is much too close. She can’t let her guard down. But how can she keep her heart hidden when a kind man with a genuine smile makes her want a fresh start?

Charter fishing pays the bills for widower Pete Thompson and his little girl, but like his father, a pastor, Pete can’t help but fish for men. Only, after growing up under constant scrutiny as a preacher’s kid, Pete’s ways are a bit more unconventional. And the bulk of his life revolves around raising his precious daughter.

When he witnesses the car wreck of a new marine biologist on the island, it doesn’t take a genius to see that more than just her physical pain needs tending. Pete feels called to help Skye find true healing, but he’s navigating dangerous waters. And he’s not at all sure he’ll walk away unscathed.

My review:

This was a wonderful story about Skye, a broken woman who fears her past, and Pete, a man who's also been hurt but healing and feels called to help Skye.  Not only does Skye lose almost everything in her car fire but she ends up taking care of her adopted sister, Sparrow, and feels in over her head.  Skye was a wonderful character, so caring about all animals and especially her rescue pets, who all have some kind of issue.  I also loved that she was an introvert.  She trusts no one except her adopted mother and the story deals with abuse but there's no description of it so it's not graphic in any way.  She also questions if God exists.  Miss Lydia was a wise, loving woman who made such a difference in Skye's and Sparrow's lives and always had insight for people.  Pete's a strong Christian and constantly prays for guidance in his interactions with Skye.  He needs to tread carefully and feels drawn to her but also isn't sure he's ready for a relationship yet after his wife's death.  The gospel is clear and I love that we see insight into Pete's relationship with God while also seeing Skye's journey to Him.  It was wonderful to see her start to heal as she started to trust God and Pete.  There was some sweet romance and also some suspense.  The characters felt real and there was a range of emotions while reading the story to it's satisfying ending.  This worked as a stand-alone, though the previous book was about her sister, who's mentioned here.  I highly recommend this wonderful story!

I received a free kindle copy of this book from JustRead Tours.  I was not compensated for this review.  All opinions are my own.
