From New York Times bestselling author Lenora Worth, a contemporary romance A Palm Tree Christmas:

From Amazon bestselling author Margaret Daley, a new romantic suspense Deadly Holiday:

Together, can they solve the mystery of the disappearing body and stay alive?

From Carol Winner and CBA Bestselling author Pamela Tracy, a new historical romance Two by Two:
In 1880's Arizona Territory, Frank Barlett, a Yuma prison guard, heads to the mining town of Bisbee in order to bury his younger brother Jasper and see that his widow has safe passage home. The widow isn't who or what Frank expected and doesn't have a home to be escorted to. Emmaline Bartlett has a secret or two and every time Frank uncovers one, it's just one more reason he's got to protect her.

From award-winning author Camille Elliot, a new Regency romance The Spinster’s Christmas:
Spinster Miranda Belmoore and naval Captain Gerard Foremont, old childhood friends, meet again for a large Christmas party at Wintrell Hall. Miranda is making plans to escape a life of drudgery as a poor relation in her cousin’s household, while Gerard battles bitterness that his career was cut short by the injury to his knee. However, an enemy has infiltrated the family party, bent on revenge and determined that Twelfth Night will end in someone’s death ...

From fan favorite author Lacy Williams, a new contemporary cowboy romance Mistletoe Cowboy:
After suffering a career-ending injury, bull rider Justin Michaels has stalled out. At twenty-seven, he’s back in college to try and find direction for his life. Valri North is a few credits away from completing her pre-med degree. She’s got her life planned out, until a disastrous assignment in class and a distracting cowboy threaten to derail her carefully-ordered plans.

From award-winning author Cheryl Wyatt, a new contemporary romance A Refuge Christmas:
Refuge police officer Connor Stallings is facing the challenge of his career: new mayor Adrianna White, who wants to restructure his beloved town upside down. Adrianna’s heart is in the right place, but as she and the handsome police officer clash, they grow close enough to glimpse on their horizon a partnership of vows beyond helping the quirky but close-knit town.

My review:

This was a very enjoyable collection of Christmas romances!  I loved the varied time periods from the Regency era to the Old West to modern day.   The plots were interesting and unique and some more developed than others.  Some of the stories were more sweet and a couple were suspenseful.  Most of the characters were well-developed and real.  The writing was pretty well done, also.  It was cute how mistletoe was incorporated into each story.  The stories were clean with a few passionate kisses, but one did have a swear word.  A couple of the stories didn't really have any Christian elements while others had quite a bit.  This third collection is their best so far!  I highly recommend it!

Pray the Scriptures When Life Hurts - by Kevin Johnson

Cover Art

About the book:

Find Hope Through Praying the Scriptures
What do you do when prayer feels futile, an endless rehashing of your problems? If one of the most practical reasons we pray is to obtain strength from God, then we need to understand how that happens. Prayer is about more than making requests. In addition to our agony and questioning, Scripture teaches us to also offer up our surrender. We can voice not only loneliness, resentment, and frustration but also peace, hope, and worship. When we let Scripture teach us a breadth of prayers, we begin to be filled with God's fresh life.

Interweaving his own story of inner anguish and physical illness, Kevin Johnson takes you through nine key Scripture passages that will help you find peace. Each passage is broken down into smaller portions, paired with short phrases to prompt you to pray Scripture back to God.

Learn how to talk to God in your pain.

My review:

This was a touching and informative book about a topic I'm not very familiar with.  I thought praying the Scriptures meant quoting verses when you prayed, but in this book Johnson had a verse or two written out, then a phrase rewording or explaining what the verse was saying and that the reader was supposed to complete.  This way you're praying in a similar format to the passage, but making it your own.  Johnson is very open as he shares much of his struggles and the pain he deals with on a daily basis.  He deals with different topics like loneliness, resentment, questions and hope.  There's plenty of space to write in your prayers and at the end of each chapter there are questions with space to write in your answers or to discuss if you're reading this with a group.  This book was encouraging and a good reminder that we're not alone.  Everyone will have to deal with some type of pain in their lifetime, but we need to depend on God and know that He is always with us.  I definitely recommend this book.

I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

An Amish Second Christmas - by Beth Wiseman, Kathleen Fuller, Ruth Reid & Tricia Goyer

About the book:

Celebrate Second Christmas, a treasured, lighthearted time of community, with four Amish romances.

“When Christmas Comes Again” by Beth Wiseman

Katherine knows the first Christmas without Elias will be hard for her and the children. But when a mysterious Englischer appears with photographs of her late husband, Katherine begins to wonder what other blessings Christmas could have in store.

“Her Christmas Pen Pal” by Ruth Reid

Joy was expecting a wedding proposal from Henry; what she got instead was news of another woman. But when her heartfelt letter to a cousin ends up in the hands of a young cabinetmaker, an unexpected correspondence between two strangers gets interesting fast.

“A Gift for Anne Marie” by Kathleen Fuller

Anne Marie and Nathaniel have been best friends since they were kids. Now things are evolving . . . in ways everyone else predicted long ago. But when her mother suddenly decides to remarry in another state, Anne Marie’s new chapter with Nathaniel looks doomed to end before it begins.

“The Christmas Aprons” by Tricia Goyer

Vanilla crumb pie has been Esther’s mem’s calling card for decades. But when Esther finally gets her hands on the secret recipe, she discovers that vanilla crumb pie is more than just dessert . . . it’s bachelor bait.

My review:

This was a wonderful collection of Amish stories centered around their Second Christmas.  Three of the stories were romances, the other about dealing with grief over the loss of a loved one and finding joy again.  They all seemed more unique than typical Amish stories, from a strange man who seems familiar to pen pals to a surprise bachelor auction.  I liked the focus on prayer, asking God for help and seeking to know what He wants for their futures.  I liked that two of the stories had women really looking at the possible suitor with eyes wide open and not letting emotion sweep them away.  They wanted to be sure they knew what they were getting into.  There were some sweet romantic moments, a lot of baking along with some recipes supplied at the back of the book and a wonderful sense of community and family.  This is one of the best Amish books I've read!  I highly recommend it to lovers of Amish, romance or Christmas stories.

I received this book free from BookLook Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.

50 Women Every Christian Should Know - by Michelle DeRusha

Cover Art

About the book:

The inspiring stories of the women who helped to shape our faith.

Throughout history, countless women have boldly stepped out in faith and courage, leaving their indelible mark on those around them and on the kingdom of God. In lively prose Michelle DeRusha tells their stories, bringing into focus fifty incredible heroines of the faith. From Catherine of Siena, Teresa of Ávila, and Anne Hutchinson to Susanna Wesley, Harriet Tubman, and Corrie ten Boom, these admirable women live again under DeRusha's expert pen. These engaging narratives are a potent reminder to us that we are not alone, the battles we face today are not new, and God is always with us in the midst of the struggle.

My review:

This was a fascinating book full of inspirational women!  It went in order of when they were born, starting all the way back in 1098 through 1925, and averaged about seven pages each.  Some of the women I'd heard of, such as Florence Nightingale and Corrie ten Boom, and others were new to me.  I liked how each biography started with a scene in their life so it almost felt like a fictional story.  Then we were given some background, such as what their childhoods were like, their education, their family life and spiritual life.  It's explained how each woman got involved in what she's known for and the impact on her family and society because of it.  These women aren't shown as perfect Christians, but instead we see their mistakes and struggles, what they had to overcome from others and from themselves.  At the end of each biography, DeRusha sums up their accomplishments and points out how we can relate to each woman and what we can take away to use in our own lives.  She has done a lot of research for each biography, with the notes in the back of the book to prove it!  While there were a lot of women to admire, there were a few that while I understood why they were included in the book because of some accomplishment, I didn't agree with their beliefs or the way they carried them out.  Overall, this book is well worth the read and I highly recommend it!
