My review:

I really enjoyed this book and felt it had a lot to say to probably most Christians.  Lucado goes through the book and life of Joshua to show us the parallels between the Hebrews' physical journey and our spiritual one to the Promised Land.  He points out that we don't have to live in defeat or feel like we're stuck in a rut; that we have God's power and His promises.  Some of his chapters deal with regrets, failure, trust and finally a reminder that God fights for you.  He especially points out that we need to be reading our Bible so we know the voice of our Shepherd and obey it.  A study done shows it's the most important tool in our spiritual growth.  I loved the personal examples from his life, the inspiring stories of people he's met and a few from famous people.  The book was very encouraging and had great practical advice.  I highly recommend it for Christians needing some encouragement and wisdom!

My review:

This was a very intriguing story about a fascinating premise.  Mostly it moved at a fast clip, but occasionally I got bogged down a little I think mainly because I didn't get to know any of the characters well.  The suspense was great and it was fascinating to think about the possibility of our minds being able to leave our bodies and what that might look like. Would it be used for good or evil?  I really liked Trent and Shane, a couple of college students caught in the middle.  I was curious why something was happening to Trent, but we never get an answer in this book so I'm assuming it will be addressed in upcoming books in the series. I liked a few of the other characters as well; some were truly fascinating. One thing that was really missing was a faith element.  I didn't see one at all.  The book was clean, so that had it going for it, but I expect a book from a Christian author and especially Christian publisher to have something in it.  I am curious where this series will go and plan to read the next.  I recommend it to fans of suspense.

My review:

This was a wonderful debut novel I had a hard time putting down!  It was well-written with characters who seemed very real, flaws and all.  I loved Brianna and felt like I could relate to her while Colleen drove me crazy at first.  I grew to like her, though, once I knew her back story and saw the change in her.  It was wonderful to see how she transformed throughout the book.  Their father and his manipulative ways frustrated me and I couldn't believe Gilbert kept going along with his plans.  I liked the different conversations about faith and God that occurred between different characters, especially Colleen and Rylan.  It was pointed out that God will forgive anything and that He values us.  There's more of a Catholic faith element, with the family attending a Catholic church and Rylan preparing to be a priest, which fits with the Irish family.  There were some elements in the story that actually reminded me of some of Julie Lessman's books.  I liked the theme of the importance of following your dreams and following God's will.   I'm excited for the next one in the series!  I highly recommend this book to fans of historical fiction!

My review:

I really enjoyed this book because it made me think about all of the positives that can come out of the hard times we go through.  King is very honest about the struggles he's gone through, especially when he lost his father, who he was incredibly close to.  Struggles can be good because they remind us how really weak we are and that we don't really have control.  They humble us and hopefully cause us to reach for God.  The things we go through can help others who are going through the same things.  We can know God walks with us in our struggles and receive His strength.  He also points out that God doesn't always cause the hard times, but He can bring good out of them if we let Him. I liked the many examples from his own life he used. There were also many quotes from a variety of people, which I loved.  This book definitely gave me a lot to think about and a sense of hope that good will come out of the struggles I go through.  It also reminded me not to let them go to waste!  I highly recommend it for everyone, because everyone has gone through hard times or will in the future.  It's a fact of life.
