Candle Prayers for Kids - by Claire Freedman

This is a cute and colorful hardcover book full of all different kinds of prayers!  Some are prayers for other people, for forgiveness for doing wrong and thankfulness for the good things God has given us.  They're split into categories such as health, pets, sad times, school, etc., with twenty categories in all.  Some of the prayers are only a few phrases, some quite a bit longer.  There are even some prayers for when parents are fighting or one for if the dad doesn't live with them anymore.

I really liked the focus on being thankful for what you have and for God watching over you. The prayers are wonderfully varied and seem to talk about everything a child would think of.  You can tell the author is British because of the use of the word "mummy" instead of "mommy" and calling what is soccer to Americans by the term "football," which I don't think would be too confusing for kids.  I didn't like that a prayer said the earth has been around for millions of years, which is more of an evolutionary view.

There's a good variety of races portrayed and boys and girls seem to be equally shown.  Overall, I think it's a cute book that would appeal to both boys and girls.  You might want to check it out!

I received this book free from Kregel Publications in exchange for an honest review.
